The hotel sits on Posidonos street, one row back from the sand. Twenty-five metres, and you are on the beach.
Olympiaki Akti is the beach resort of Katerini, on the Thermaic Gulf in Pieria. It is a long, flat, sandy stretch with shallow water at the edge, which is the main reason families keep coming back to it rather than to the rockier coves further south.
What is actually there
Organised sections of umbrellas and loungers run most of the length of the beach, with stretches left open in between. In front of the hotel you will find swimming, jet ski and beach volleyball, and the water stays shallow far enough out that small children can be let in without an argument.
The seafront road behind the sand fills up in the evening with people walking, and the tavernas and cafés along it stay open late through the summer.
The mountain behind you
Turn your back to the water and Mount Olympus is there, twelve kilometres inland. The resort takes its name from it. On a clear morning you can see the summit ridge from the balconies on the upper floors of the hotel.
For anyone who wants to get closer, there is a Jockey Club and an Alpine Club up towards the mountain, both set up for visitors who would rather walk or ride than drive.
Getting your bearings
Katerini itself is the nearest town, a few minutes inland, with the supermarkets, the pharmacy and the bus and train connections. Thessaloniki is seventy-six kilometres north. Parking at the hotel is free, which matters here in August.
